.....Now that you are ready, and your Topic section has been filled out, start taking notes! Remember, your goal is to write only facts/quotes. Take notes in the 2nd section of your paper, as seen below:

Here are a few more tips to consider:

  • think before you write- make sure it makes sense to you
  • write down information presented visually (graphs, charts, captions)
  • keep ALL research
  • use abbreviations ("b/c" for "because"; "&" for "and")
  • leave white space on your paper
  • write down questions- you will probably not remember them later
When you finish reading, you will want to review your notes. Your retention level increases dramatically if you review your notes within 2 hours of reading. To learn how to do an effective review, go on to the next page.
