Making Homework a Positive Experience for Your Child
- Homework can consist of 3 parts:
- Assignments [25 percent]
- Reading [25 percent]
- Review Notes where applicable [50 percent]
- How should one review their notes?
- Depends on your learning style:
- visual: read; use charts and pictures
- audial: listen to tape; transcribe highlights
- print: transcribe notes
- oral-interactive: recite, talk it over
- haptic: movement; lots of mini-breaks

How to get them to do this?
- Set up situation to maximize success; set up quality study environment and structure it for optimal concentration.

ELEMENTS IN A GOOD STUDY ENVIRONMENT:
- quiet place
- few interruptions
- alone (even oral-interactives)
- No TV, radio, stereo, walkmans, etc. UNLESS....
- suitable temperature
- desk with hard backed chair
- No lying on floor, in bed, in hot tub, etc.
- No food
- All the materials/supplies at hand
- ELEMENTS TO PROMOTE CONCENTRATION
- relax beforehand
- view studying as HONORED Time -- Total dedication
- set goals
- plan short breaks

No TV, phone nor heavy food.
- Use check mark notepad technique to stay on task
- psych self up
- reward self (nightly/weekly/report card time)
